Catalogue of Izzy #12

{Isabel comes over to speak to Mummy and Daddy, wearing a set of gold Mardi Gras-style beads}
Isabel: "I'm going to wear this and be the mother. I'm going to take the babies and put them in line for the doctor."
Mummy: "What happens then?"
Isabel: "If something happens, you don't say nothing." {Isabel scampers off to play.}
Mummy to Daddy: "We need to get better insurance. This hospital is ske-tchy."
Daddy: "Hi Everybody!"

Now, she's treating Orin's apparent broken foot with a princess sticker and dog food. o_O

Catalogue of Izzy #10

{We'd just finished watching Follow the Feather, an episode of the Backyardigans featuring a wise, gypsy-type character called "The Mysterious Lady", who gives the other characters advice about their quest. Izzy had been quoting and pretending to be the Mysterious Lady for the last little while.}
Mummy: Isabel I need some help with the laundry. I would like you to sort out all of the socks and facecloths please.
Isabel: I'm the Mysterious Lady.
Mummy: Perfect! I need some help with the clothes, Mysterious Lady.
Isabel: The Mysterious Lady knows much. The Mysterious Lady doesn't do clothes.

Catalogue of Izzy #9

{We are all sitting at the table toward the end of supper. David has his head resting on his arm on the table thanks to our less-than-restful weekend.}
Isabel: "I know you don't feel well, daddy." {Stands up, walks over to him and starts rubbing his arm.}
David: "Thanks, Izzy."
Isabel: "You take care of me when I don't feel well and I take care of you when you don't feel well." {Starts stroking the side of his face} "I will keep you safe."
David: "That's very kind of you, Isabel."
Isabel: {Strokes Dave's nose} "Zurg's not here, Daddy. Don't worry."

Catalogue of Izzy #8

According to Isabel, this box reads "Crackers for Babies and Isabels".

Products are far more specific today than I remember them being.

Catelogue of Izzy #6 & 7

While watching Courtney perform on Fringe:
"That's my Courtney. She's a dentist."

While talking about plans for the brief window between the end of school and my jaw surgery, I asked Dave if he wanted to have a "do" for his birthday specifically or if he wanted to blend it with a general celebration of birthdays, summer and solid food. Isabel followed my question with this:
"Yes Daddy, what do you want for your birthday? Toy Story? Princess? King?" and one more option that sound like "pigeon" to Dave and "prison" to me. I suspect the latter would be more enjoyable. Either way, she continued by asking him if he wanted a cake or ice cream.

Project 365 - March 14th & Catalogue of Izzy #5

Isabel will only use "the flower bowls" and has begun expressing disdain for "the moustache bowls". I absolutely love the way her brain works.

Catelogue of Izzy #4

For the second time, when we drove past Christ Church Cathedral, Isabel has said, "look at that castle." Not surprising, if you look at it. She followed that up with, "there's a dragon in there!"

Here be dragons, indeed.

Project 365 - January 30th & Catelogue of Izzy

This one needed its own post because there is a story that goes with it. As Isabel and I were driving to the grocery store, she piped up from the backseat:
Isabel: "I want to do elastics."
Me: "What honey?"
I: "I want to do elastics."
M: "I don't know what that means, hon."
I: "EEEEELASTICS! I want to do eeelastics. With the boy. The big boy."
M: (repeated what she said and looked in the rearview mirror to see her doing this...)

(I am completely boggled, so I repeat it again, at which time it dons on me what she is saying)
M: "WAIT! Are you saying you want to do GYMNASTICS?"
I: "Yeah!! Elastics! With the big boy!"
(I start laughing. The hand gesture is her trying to gesture "big" and by "big boy" she means the male coach who was instructing them at the school's field trip to gymnastics on Thursday.)

For the nervous nellies out there, I asked her to do the hand gesture again for me once we'd stopped in the parking lot...she is not riding around Fredericton without a seatbelt on.

The Catalogue of Izzy - Issue #2

Isabel loves to sing. I was reminded of some of her hilarious rewrites of popular songs by this morning's gem:

"What do you want, Amy?" aka Adam Lambert's What do you want from me? (one of her teacher's names is Amy)

We have been having a hard time remembering some of the others, but the all-time favourite - it will likely go down in history as one of the things out of Isabel that has gotten the most laughs - is her rewrite of Lady Gaga's Bad Romance:
I want your lovin'
I just wanna be friends
You and me can make some badger pants
OooooOooooOoooOOO Oh Oh
Caught wearin' badger pants

She has no idea what a badger is, so I think she was just making stuff up, but I don't think I have laughed so hard as I did when we imagined "badger pants" (are these pants made for or made of badgers?).

I am sure there'll be another installment of "Isabel Sings", but this should amuse you for now.

The Catalogue of Izzy - Issue #1

Orin's a baby.
When I was a baby, Gramma carried me.
When I'm big, I'll carry Gramma.
